2nd Meeting of Free Software for GIS
The Portuguese Chapter of OSGeo organizes from 2 to 4 November 2009, the "2nd Meeting of Free Software for GIS" in the University of Évora. The organization commitee has the support of AMDE, Departamento de Paisagem, Ambiente e Ordenamento da UE, Departamento de Informática da UE and Faunalia.pt
The first SASIG meeting that took place in Águeda in October 2008, sought to broaden the horizons, change the perspective about software for GIS and present the existent alternatives their applications in real environment. Following this first initiative of success, we intend to present case studies of Open Software for GIS's implementation in Public Administration, organizations, education, research, and several open solutions and interoperability between GIS systems.
The II SASIG also aims to enhance training in several available technologies and GIS programs, based on Open Source. To do so there will be promoted wokshops with a practical component
As ultimate goal, we aim to strengthen public participation and the Portuguese community of Open Source Software for GIS users, by promoting the companionship in cultural activities and a meeting with the interested in formalize the NGO OSGEO_PT.
In these II SASIG, social and environmental responsibility will be
the basic tematic. So, we will opt by the rationalization of resources
and when possible by the use of “green” materials and practices, that
also potentiate social and local development.
Format
The format of this second SASIG conference will follow the one from last year, with one and a half day dedicated to the presentation communications and case studies related to Open Source GIS technology, and another day and a half dedicated to practical workshops (basic and advanced).
The meeting will also have cultural initiatives, providing conviviality and sharing moments.
