Ubuntu 9.04: Launch of the Jaunty Jackalope on April 23

The latest version of Ubuntu, which is code named Jaunty Jackalope will be officially launched this Thursday and will be supported until October 2010. The most important improvements in the 9:04 version is the 2.6.28 Linux kernel and a large reduction of the boot.

According to Mark Shuttleworth this is a tremendous launch and hope to be very popular. "The founder of Canonical said in a press conference that he thinks the 9.04 version, which is the tenth release from Canonical which founded the project in October 2004, is "the best ever."

The Ubuntu 9.04 is full of stories, one is the Gnome graphical environment as 2.26, which includes improvements of which are: the Brasero, and program for recording CD's by default and an improvement in support for multiple monitors. Also the new Kubuntu has the version 4.2.2 of the KDE graphical environment and their news.

A new system of notification is another of the novelties that you can find in Ubuntu 9.04. Besides the new look this system moves the action on the old system of notification for a list, to be treated later.

The ext4 file system was also implemented in the installer, however it is not the default file system in Ubuntu yet. Several tests ensure that this file system reduces the time to start in about 25 percent.

Ubuntu 9.04 also has a feature that will make headlines: it is now possible to install Ubuntu on machines with ARM processors and therefore should appear on the market MID's and netbooks with Ubuntu based on this architecture. The ARM processor has an excellent relationship between performance and power consumption and therefore are widely used in gadjets as tablets, mobile phones and routers.

In addition to the news and like its predecessor, the new Ubuntu is easy to install and you can do a test drive using the Live CD before installing to try the new version. The user has at its disposal a wide array of free updated programs, OpenOffice 3.0, the GIMP 2.6.6 and Pidgin 2.5.5.

Ubuntu 9.04 will be available for download from 23 April, at www.ubuntu.com. You can also order an installation CD at shipit.ubuntu.com.
